Alive in New York

My life is constantly changing, I mean besides my hair. I am back in California starting school again wishing I was still in New York spending more time with my amazing friends. To sum up my time in New York I refused to go out into the cold unless it was for Food, Alcohol, or my 'stay in and drink' combination of San Pellegrino and Vodka.

Now that I have been to New York a few times I have gathered a list of some of my favorite things to do and places to eat.
We will get the touristy things out of the way first...

Places to go:

  • Statue of Liberty

  • Walk the Brooklyn Bridge

  • Visit Roosevelt island and relax

  • Walk around the World Trade Center Oculus

  • Walk the Highline park

  • Rockafeller Center

  • Flat Iron Building

  • Chelsea Market

  • Bryant Park (one of my favorite places to relax)

  • Grand Central Station

  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art

  • Museum of Modern Art

  • Cooper-Hewitt Museum

Places to Eat and Drink:

This is a growing list, but I would like to point out a few things on the lists above.
If you are looking for: live entertainment, great drinks, and a beautiful experience; I highly recommend The Apotheke Bar. The night we stumbled upon this bar the High & Mighty Brass Band were playing their renditions of popular music. Entering this bar is absolutely one of my favorite experiences. Walking up it looks very quiet and it is surrounded by businesses that are closed for the night (depending on the time you go). As you enter the building the energy of the environment is so inviting. We approached the bar and I ordered a Dr. Ruth. If you plan on visiting this bar, I strongly encourage you to order this cocktail. The Apotheke bar should definitely be on your places to go. The High & Mighty Brass Band performs on Tuesday nights and they are truly incredible. This group is extremely talented and adds to the whole experience.

If you find yourself wandering around Union Square looking for sweets stop by Dough Doughnuts and grab a Hibiscus doughnut. One bite and you'll see why it made its way onto my blog. I love sweets. I don't have too many, but I devoured my doughnut and considered going back for seconds. For those who love chocolate (all of us), I also suggest the Mocha Almond Crunch doughnut. Stop by and get one or ten and a box to go and you won't regret a single thing.

If you are like me you probably enjoy nice places to eat. Jack's Wife Freda is the perfect spot to hit up and satisfy your hunger. This restaurant will most likely have a wait, but definitely stay. Trust me, it's worth it. Not only do they have incredibly delicious food, but the whole restaurant is aesthetically pleasing for all the foodies out there. Being from a small town I really appreciate great service and sometimes it's hard to come by in New York. At Jack's Wife Freda they have the friendliest employees which makes eating there more welcoming. I encourage you to stop in and give Jack's a try!

I'm working on trying to make it back to New York and expand my list of favorites. If you are traveling to New York, I highly recommend all the things on the lists above.
